Velen in The Witcher 3
Velen is the largest early-game combat and quest region, mixing war-torn settlements, marshes and the Bloody Baron storyline.
Short answer. Treat Velen as a level-gated open region: follow the main Baron route first, then branch into contracts and side quests when their recommended level is green.

Where to find it and what to do
Cross from White Orchard through the pontoon bridge or fast travel point. The main road leads toward Crow's Perch, Midcopse and the swamps around Downwarren.
